Existing Onboarding

The previous onboarding of Bravely had a white-based background, accompanied with vector images and text, followed by a green-gradient button. The overall colors didn’t match nor reflect the brand colors.

You can click on the button below to try our prototype and later understand how we got there.

Project Objective

Re-design the onboarding flow for the Bravely app as the existing onboarding:
• Do not match the updated app style
• Aren’t very innovative and
• Are not a great introduction to the app

Initial findings/Research

Selected raw data from 9 participants were provided to us from the Client and these data were feedback/responses from their conducted user-testing through video call and screen share on Google-meet. The responses were grouped through Affinity Mapping.

Had concerns on technical issues such
as no return buttons, unable edit previous responses, not being sure of the next course of action is, what the up/down votes button function does.

Like the illustrations used across the app.

Takeaways

As a first Client project while doing this User Experience Design Immersive Course,
I was not sure of what to be expected from working on the deliverables. Additionally,
it was my first time working on a mental health app.

In going through the responses from the interviews and user-testings with individuals who struggle with mental health, I had a better understanding of what they go through, their frustrations and needs, which also helped me understand the specific needs that I could include in an app that is catered to them.

Challenges.png

Challenges

The two challenges that I had was probably not sufficiently well-versed technically in Figma than I thought I was and also thinking about the end goal in mind when my team mates and I first studied the app and found the problems.

Figma had some commands that were similar to Illustrator and given how I have used Illustrator as a graphic designer previously, I thought those knowledge was good enough. Little did I know, there was more to what I needed to know. Along the way,
I’ve also picked up some new technical skills from my team mate which would definitely help me later in my career as well.

In thinking about the end goal when we first found the issues on the app, it was a ‘practise’ that I often had in my previous career as a graphic designer, having to deal with how the elements or key words and images have to be repositioned such that it highlights them better.

But in this case as a Creative lead in the group, by doing so, it will not answer the users’ pain points as it is also a bias perception of what I think could work best for them. It is only through the interviews and user-testings where we then have a rough picture of the needs and pain points of the target audience. It is only through that can we then proceed to plan on the opportunities to include the necessary features in these touchpoints for the users, in order to improve the overall user experience.

From the client

“We have been thoroughly impressed by the work completed by this group of students. From the initial contact to the end of the project, the team was attentive and professional, I would have no hesitation in working with them again. Each member of the team has done well and we have enjoyed working with them.

The first workshop was well run, with great ideas being suggested. Throughout the project we have been very impressed by the quality of work, even the draft versions.

The final deliverables have exceeded our expectations, in the depth and extent of the information presented. The onboarding flow they have created fits the brief, and is scalable for future development or changes
to our product.”
